Ready to learn more about Spring cleaning for your body? Today, we’re featuring another guest post by Kristin Stephens, NTP, MS:

Dry brushing your skin before a shower is a great way to:

  • reduce cellulite,
  • increase circulation,
  • exfoliate the skin,
  • stimulate your lymphatic system.

The first three sound familiar, right? But what about that last one? What the heck is the lymphatic system?

The lymphatic system is responsible for removing waste, toxins and other unwanted junk from the body. When the system isn’t working as it should, you can get sick from the build up of toxins. By dry brushing the skin, you’re stimulating the waste removal process, thus allowing your body to appropriately detox and eliminate waste.

How to do it:

Always brush towards your heart, beginning at the feet. I brush one leg and then the other, then move onto my abdomen and lower back. Then, I brush each arm, starting at the fingertips, moving up to my shoulders, and down my chest.

You should apply a little pressure, but not so much it hurts and causes redness and irritation. You can brush once or twice a day, or just a few times a week. It can take between 2 minutes and 20 minutes, depending on how much time you have. I like to do it for a few minutes before a shower and keep my brush in the bathroom as a reminder.
