Did you know….
Conventional deodorants are harmful to your body in many ways. Anti-perspirant’s contain a handful of toxic chemicals that are not ideal for human consumption. Each day, we apply these chemicals to our bodies unknowingly as a way to avoid sweat and body odor. Little do we know, these trace amounts can build up over time, and are linked to different forms of cancer, tumors, bronchial issues, and other health related problems.
According to the National Cancer Society, “Reports have suggested that these products contain harmful substances, which can be absorbed through the skin or enter the body through nicks caused by shaving. Some scientists have also proposed that certain ingredients in underarm antiperspirants or deodorants may be related to breast cancer because they are applied frequently to an area next to the breast.”
Since our skin is our biggest organ and absorbs everything it comes into contact with, it is important to put natural, chemical free products on it. To read more about common toxins in deodorants and why they are bad for you, check out this article.
The solution: Aluminum-free, Natural deodorant

With plenty of protein and little sugar, these little guys are easy to make ahead of time and take anywhere as a quick breakfast, mid-day snack, or even an after dinner desert. We hope you enjoy them as much as we do!
Now that we know how to identify GMO’s in their simplest form, we need to be able to identify them in their complex forms as well.
Marketers have become skilled at making a product sound healthy when its really no better than anything else on the shelves. Unlike organic labels and the Non-GMO Project Verified seal, the terms listed below don’t have clear definitions and are not backed by any standards that indicate the absence of GMO’s:
- “Natural” means only that a food product must be “minimally processed” and contain no artificial ingredients. This label can be on food from animals raised on GMO feed or given GMO hormones.
- “All Natural” has no legal meaning. Products described as “all natural” may contain GMO’s
- Surprisingly, foods labeled “GMO-Free” may contain GMO’s. The term has no legal meaning.
- The term “Pure” also has no legal meaning and there are no standards that support “pure” products being non-GMO.
Now That I know The Risks of GMO’s, How Can I Avoid Them?
Most GMO’s come from only 5 plants, those of which 90% are genetically modified. Remember the 2 S’s and 3 C’s!*
- Soy- Used in soybean oil, lecithin, protein powders, and vegetable protein added to many packaged foods.
- Sugar Beets- refined into sugar
- Corn- used to make corn syrup, corn oil, and feed for many animals.
- Canola- Made from the rapeseed plant, this oil is a common ingredient in salad dressings, mayonnaise, and snack foods
- Cottonseed- Oil is used to fry processed foods such as potato chips. common ingredient in baked foods and margarine.
What is a Genetically Modified Organism? How does it affect me? How can I avoid them?
We are excited to bring you this first post of a three-part blog series about Genetically Modified Organisms, or GMO’s. A GMO is a food or food additive that is genetically engineered, meaning that a foreign gene has been introduced into a plant or animal product. Proven studies have shown eating GMO’s can be harmful to our health, having been linked to cancer and premature death. Unfortunately, GMO’s are now in more than 75% of foods in America! The worst part? GMO foods are not required to be labeled in the US! That means most of the time, we don’t know that we are eating them even though they are hidden in most of our food.
Silent Supermarket Takeover
GMO’s quietly began to appear on shelves in 1994 and then they began to slowly infiltrate supermarkets. Most people were unaware of this change at the time, so there was little backlash on the issue. Therefore, food manufacturing giants were able to stop legislation in regards to labeling.
GMO’s are genetically modified to resist insects, produce higher levels of certain nutrients, and resist the toxicity of herbicides. The stronger herbicides are more effective in killing weeds, but they also leave a more toxic residue within the plant, which is passed onto us when we consume it.
Today we discovered an awesome trick for easily losing a pound a week!
As you may already know, olive oil is considered a superfood because it has protective and preventative qualities for your overall health. To name a few, it can help prevent heart disease, avoid strokes, protect against certain types of cancer, and even ease inflammation and joint pain.
Eating breakfast is something that we all should be doing as a way to kick start our metabolisms and prepare ourselves for our day ahead! It is important to eat meals for breakfast that do not pack on the sugar, as we need to start the day with healthy blood-glucose levels to sustain our bodies for the day to come.

1. Green tea and baking soda metabolism booster
A recent study out of Penn State’s College of Agricultural Sciences found that drinking green tea regularly can boost the effects of exercise to aid weight loss efforts. The study was conducted on mice that were fed a diet with high amounts of fat, exercised regularly, and given green tea extract. The mice showed an average body mass reduction of 27.1 percent and an average abdominal mass reduction of 36.6 percent.
There are three compounds in green tea that are thought to help promote weight loss: catechins, theanine and caffeine. These substances work together to block enzymes that are responsible for fat storage in the body.
